Faliraki police impose music ban
Five pub owners charged with noise pollution in bid to secure peace
Police in the troubled Greek resort of Faliraki are claiming to have struck the “final blow” to stop the antics of British tourists – they have banned music in bars after midnight.
The head of Rhodes’ police force reportedly told the Daily Telegraph that five pub owners have been charged with noise pollution, while one bar – the one where a British woman was arrested last week for going topless – has been closed down for violating licensing laws.
Themis Kalamatis reportedly told the newspaper: “We believed that the measures have worked very quickly and that we have secured peace in Faliraki for the rest of the season. We feel that the last blow was the abolition of music pollution after 12 0’clock.”
How this will affect those who have already booked holidays in the resort, expecting to be able to party all night, is anyone’s guess, however; one twenty-something holidaymaker preparing for a trip to the sun told News From Abroad this morning: “This will mean more trouble – if people can’t party in bars they will just head for the beach and that could mean more trouble.”
