Fauci clarifies ‘pandemic is not over’

Sunday, 28 Apr, 2022 0

US infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci retreated from comments that the pandemic is already over.

Earlier this week Fauci said the US was ‘out of the pandemic phase.’

“I want to clarify one thing. I probably should have said the acute component of the pandemic phase. I understand how that can lead to some misinterpretation,” Fauci said.

“We are just in a different moment of the pandemic,” Fauci clarified

“We’ve now decelerated and transitioned into more of a controlled phase. By no means does that mean the pandemic is over.”

He added: “We’re not going to eradicate this virus.”

The US is reporting about 50,000 cases a day, according to the New York Times tracker

However, hospitalizations and deaths are down.
