Flights delayed after Ryanair plane scrapes another on Dublin runway

An investigation is under way after two Ryanair planes collided at Dublin Airport this morning.

The aircraft, one bound for Zadar and the other for Edinburgh, were taxiing on the runway when, according to Ryanair, ‘the winglet of one aircraft appears to have scraped the tail fin of the other’.

"Both aircraft were under the instruction of Dublin Airport Air Traffic Control at the time," said the airline in a statement.

It said customers were bussed back to the terminal and have now boarded replacement aircraft to continue their journeys.

"Ryanair apologises sincerely to customers for any inconvenience caused," it added.

Emergency services were called to the scene but there were no reports of injuries.

Dublin Airport said the ground incident is causing delays to some departures this morning, but arrivals are operating normally. It advised passengers to check with their airline.

It is the third reported incident of this kind for Ryanair in the last year.

In October 2014, two of its planes clipped each other while taxiing to the runway at Dublin, the winglet of one scraping against the tail of another.

In June 2014, two Ryanair jets collided on the ground at London’s Stansted Airport, again with the wing-tip of one plane and the tail-cone of another making contact.
