Flybe has nearly doubled flights from Birmingham to Spain and Portgual.

The carrier is basing two new Boeing 737-300 aircaft at Birmingham allowing an expansion to its Summer schedule.

Flights launched over Easter weekend include services from Birmingham to Alicante, Almeria, Bergerac, Brest, Faro, La Rochelle, Malaga, Murcia and Palma.

Fares start from £39 one way on most routes, dipping to £29 to La Rochelle and £34 to Brest including taxes and charges.

Flybe plans to push the new routes through press advertising and claims to have the largest low fare airline press advertising spend with a budget amounting to £10 million.

The carrier has 17 UK bases including Exeter, Southampton, Belfast City, Birmingham and the Channel islands.
