Foreign travellers may still be allowed in Australia this year
Foreign travellers may still get the chance to visit Australia in.2021.
Australia’s border could yet reopen to inbound international tourists by the end of the year.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison told parliament he expects Australia would be able to welcome back fully vaccinated overseas tourists before the New Year.
He made the prediction as the government wraps up arrangements with Singapore for a travel corridor.
"We’ll be concluding very, very shortly our arrangements with Singapore which will see next month, particularly, students and business travellers being the first to come to Australia out of Singapore who are double-vaccinated," Morrison said.
"By the end of the year I fully anticipate that we’ll be able to achieve seeing international visitors, including backpackers, who are double-vaccinated being able to come back to Australia."
This week, Singapore announced fully vaccinated Aussies will be able to enter without quarantine from November 8.
Except for a short-lived NZ travel corridor, Australian borders have been closed since March 2020.
Additionally, from next week Australians can leave the country without having to apply for an exit exemption
