Former First Choice MD named chairman of ski specialist
Former First Choice managing director for UK distribution John Wimbleton has been appointed chairman of Ski Solutions.
The appointment comes as the London-based winter-sport specialist announced it has attracted over £6 million investment from Mobeus Equity Partners as part of a secondary management buyout.
The company, which achieved growth of over 20% per year over the last three years, said it ‘aims to further scale its winter programme and bring its expert advice and concierge client service to the summer activities market’.
Mobeus has taken an undisclosed majority stake in the business, as part of the secondary buyout.
Ski Solutions was founded in 1986 as the first independent travel agent dedicated to the specialist needs of skiers.
In 2010, managing director Craig Burton led an initial MBO and rapidly expanded into the high growth tailor-made segment.
Wimbleton has over 35 years’ experience in travel, including being part of the group management board at TUI Travel and more recently at Scott Dunn.
He said: "Ski Solutions has a unique business model being both a travel operator and travel agency business and is well positioned to capitalise on the interesting market dynamics in the travel sector at the moment."
