The Memorial Day holiday garnered a new record as the busiest single day for air travel.
However, it didn’t quite surpass the three million mark for air travelers in a single day.
The Transportation Security Administration said it screened a total of 2,951,163 travelers on the Friday before the holiday.
This broke the previous record set last Thanksgiving.
“On Friday, May 24, 2,951,163 individuals were screened at checkpoints nationwide,” the TSA posted on X.
It was the highest single day total in its history.
The third busiest day on record was just a day earlier on the Thursday with just under 2.9 million travelers screened at airports.
The country’s busiest airport Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson had its busiest day ever on the Thursday with 111,000 passengers.
On Friday it screened 109,960.
