Fuel rise takes shine off easyJet carryings
EasyJet saw passenger numbers rise by 15% last month over June 2004 but continues to feel the impact of high fuel prices.
The no-frills airline carried more than 2.5 million passengers in the period, giving a rolling 12 month total of more than 28 million – a rise of 23%. Revenues were up by 22%.
Chief executive Ray Webster said: “We experienced a more favourable revenue environment during the month, but this has been balanced by an unfavourable movement in the spot price of jet fuel.
“Our profit guidance, stated at the time of our interim results release in May, remains unchanged; we now expect total revenue per seat for the current fiscal year to be slightly ahead of last year.”
The carrier has put on sale its largest winter schedule – around 15 million seats between 63 airports, including 29 routes from Basel and Geneva in Switzerland for the ski season.
