GoAir lays off foreign pilots, cancels all international flights
Indian budget airline GoAir is suspending all international operations and has laid off all of its foreign pilots.
Flights to Dammam, Kuwait, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bangkok, Phuket and Male are suspended until mid-April.
"When the situation improves, GoAir will reinstate these flights and operate at the earliest opportunity," the airline said.
"In view of the current situation, GoAir has been forced to terminate the contracts of expat pilots which is in line with the reduced international capacity."
The airline declined to say how many pilots were laid off, although Iocal media said it was 80 pilots citing an unnamed source.
Earlier this week the India government banned entry of passengers from Turkey, Europe and the UK as part of its efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus.
India has recorded 151 cases so far with three confirmed deaths.
