An AAP report says that summit organisers say the travel plans of all the world leaders visiting Sydney for APEC next month are still being settled.
The APEC Taskforce declined to confirm or deny a Nine Network report that US President George W Bush wanted to arrive two days early for the September 7-9 summit, with the decision meaning hundreds of additonal rooms will be required for President Bush and his massive entourage.
“Details of the leaders’ travel plans and itineraries are still being settled,” the APEC Taskforce said in a statement.
The task force dismissed suggestions that changes to President Bush’s plans would throw security arrangements into disarray.
“The Australian and NSW government agencies planning for APEC includes security planning that is flexible to accommodate changes, including changes to travel itineraries,” the statement said.
APEC organisers reminded Sydney residents to expect a significant security presence during the event, including large numbers of police, safety barricades, identification checks and the possibility of vehicle or personal searches.
