UK tourism chiefs are hoping the success of new blockbuster Sherlock Holmes film will spark international interest in travel to Britain.
The new Sherlock Holmes adaptation by British director Guy Ritchie had its London premiere last night.
The movie, starring Robert Downie Jr as the Victorian detective and Jude Law as his assistant Dr John Watson, goes on UK general release at cinemas on Boxing Day.
Already gaining critical acclaim in early reviews, Sherlock Holmes features locations such as St Paul’s Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament, Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, Manchester town hall, Liverpool docks and Chatham Historic Dockyard in Kent.
The two stars, speaking at a global press conference in London yesterday, both heaped praise on the experience of filming throughout Britain.
VisitBritain is working with the film’s media and promotional partners globally to award Sherlock Holmes-themed trips to Britain that will include a stay at a Radisson Edwardian Hotel.
An online movie map at visitbritain.com/sherlock holmes has been developed as part of a partnership with Warner Bros Pictures, the makers of the film.
