Hong Kong : Crisis? what crisis?

If many tourism countries experienced a slowdown in tourist arrivals, a move accelerated by the Gulf war and rising oil prices, Hong Kong does not seem to suffer from any Gulf crisis or oil price crisis.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board reported continued growth in visitor arrivals in April 2026, with provisional figures showing approximately 4.22 million visitors welcomed to the city, a 10% increase year over year. Long-haul markets in April jumped even by 20%…

The strong performance was supported by major international events, including the Hong Kong Sevens held in early April, which helped attract additional overseas travelers and sustain the upward tourism trend seen in recent months.

From January through April 2026, Hong Kong recorded approximately 18.52 million visitor arrivals, representing a 15% increase compared with the same period last year. Visitors from the Chinese Mainland totaled 14.18 million, up 18%, while non-Mainland arrivals reached 4.34 million, an 8% increase year over year.

The tourism board said it will continue monitoring developments in the Middle East and any potential impact on aviation capacity and regional travel demand. The HKTB added that it plans to maintain a flexible approach to resource allocation while focusing on attracting high-value visitors to maximize tourism’s economic contribution.
