Hong Kong is taking away the right to unconditional visa-free entry for Indian travellers.
It is revoking the visa-free facility due to the high number of Indians overstaying the current 14-day allowed duration.
This has prompted immigration officials to revise the agreement between the two countries.
From January 23, 2017, Indian travellers are required to complete an online pre-arrival registration before travelling to Hong Kong.
"Registration is free. The computer system will display the result instantly once the registration is made," Hong Kong information services department said on its website.
Exemptions include those with Indian diplomatic passports or a Hong Kong Travel Pass, and transit passengers.
