Affluent travelers on business like Hyatt but for leisure prefer Ritz-Carlton, according to a 2006 “Portrait of Affluent Travelers” survey.

Affluent visitors are defined as those with incomes in excess of $150,000, which is an estimated 7% of all US households.

The five top rankings for both business and leisure travelers were Hyatt Regency/Park Hyatt, Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, Starwood and Marriott.

The Phoenician in Scottsdale, Ariz., topped the list of individual or independently-owned resorts for leisure travel.

When it came to airlines, affluent travelers showed a preference for American, followed by United, Delta, Southwest and Continental.

For luxury cruises, Holland America topped the list of leisure travelers.
