JetBlue has announced that Cleveland Hopkins International Airport will become its 88th destination from April next year.
The carrier will offer double-daily flights to Boston beginning April 30, with a hint of additional routes to come, if it proves a success.
Dave Clark, the carrier’s vice president of network planning was in Cleveland to announce the launch and said Florida was next on its radar from Cleveland if there is demand in the local market.
He cited Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Orlando as possible future routes.
"Cleveland has been on our radar for a long time. This was the year we were finally ready to take the step," said Clark.
We certainly have other plans for Cleveland in mind."
"We are very excited to add JetBlue’s service here at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. We welcome their new Cleveland to Boston nonstop flights and hope that this is just the beginning of a long and prosperous relationship," said Cleveland Airport director Ricky D. Smith.
It is more good news for the Ohio airport following United Airlines’ decision earlier this year to end its hub status at Cleveland and scrap over 100 daily flights.
Interestingly, United’s Cleveland-Boston route is one of the few that survived the cull and will go head-to-head with JetBlue’s new service.
Other carriers including Spirit, Frontier and Delta have announced new routes at Cleveland in recent months to partly fill the void left by United’s cut-backs.
