Ka’anapali Beach Hotel unveils USD65 million ‘Kealaula’ transformation
Iconic beachfront property Ka’anapali Beach Hotel is to undergo a new transformation to offer more culturally enriching elements for guests.
Launching in spring 2020, the ‘Kealaula’ project will showcase enhancements including a major redesign to the 180-room Kaua’i Wing, a new oceanfront restaurant, Huihui, and a refresh of the courtyard including additional native Hawaiian plants.
The project will cost about $65 million.
Alika Guerrero, Ka’anapali Beach Hotel’s director of Po’okela, is overseeing the cultural aspects of the renovation.
Rooms in the Kaua’i wing will be upgraded with modern design elements and features, while still incorporating a strong sense of Hawaiian culture.
New signature restaurant Huihui will be symbolic of of the art of Hawaiian wayfinding, featuring a space to house the hotels’ Hawaiian paddling and sailing canoes.
"The focus of our upcoming $65 million project is to enhance our opportunities to provide the exceptional and culturally enriching guest experiences for which Ka’anapali Beach Hotel has become known. The direction from our owners is that the project must reflect and respect the Hawaiian culture and support our Po’okela programs that have been ongoing for over 30 years," said general manager Mike White.
Originally built in 1964, Ka’anapali Beach Hotel is set on a three-mile stretch of beach in western Maui and is a torch bearer for authentic local culture.
It offers cultural classes such as kukui nut bracelet making and complimentary ukulele lessons, as well as activities like canoe paddling, stand-up paddle boarding, snorkeling, and conch shell blowing.
