Khiri Travel Announces Management Changes
Lateral moves and internal promotions in Thailand, Myanmar and Laos
(L to R): Edouard Steinert, Melissa Tan, Stefan Scheerer
Khiri Travel has announced internal management changes affecting its operations in Thailand, Myanmar and Laos.
Effective 1 December, Stefan Scheerer, the Assistant General Manager at Khiri Travel Myanmar, will move to Vientiane, where he will become General Manager of Khiri Travel Laos. Scheerer knows Laos and Thailand well and speaks Thai. He has been with Khiri for two years. In that time he has risen from Customer Care Manager in Myanmar to Assistant General Manager, and now General Manager for Laos.
At the same time, Melissa Tan will become General Manager of Khiri Travel Myanmar. Tan joined Khiri in April 2017 as Commercial Manager for Myanmar. In her new role, she will take care of day-to-day management from the Khiri Travel office in Yangon. Tan will report to Edwin Briels, Managing Director of Khiri Travel Myanmar, who retains the key leadership role for Khiri Travel Myanmar. Tan’s promotion will free Briels to develop new products in Myanmar’s frontier areas.
In Thailand, Edouard Steinert started as Commercial Director on 1 November. Steinert will lead a sales team targeting travel consultants in key markets and lead the development and expansion of Khiri Thailand’s unique product.
Khiri Travel Thailand recently developed a series of innovative cross-border itineraries linking Thailand with Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. The trips include some of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s 12 ‘hidden provincial gems’, such as Nan, Loei and Chantaburi.
Steinert’s team will also be responsible for selling Khiri Travel’s signature products, such as a picnic lunch in Chiang Mai, walking tours in Bangkok, and upcountry family treasure hunts.
Willem Niemeijer, the founder of Khiri Travel says: "These lateral moves and internal promotions will further empower Khiri Travel to create and promote unique travel experiences that resonate in the responsible tourism sector across the Mekong region."
