Kingfisher to connect India’s tourist icons

Tuesday, 27 November 20073 min read

NEW DELHI: India’s travel trade has welcomed the launch by Kingfisher Airlines of special tourist sector flights connecting Jaipur, Agra and Delhi.

Rajeev Kohli, director of marketing, Creative Travel India, called it “an amazing piece of news”.

“Now we will have air connectivity between Delhi-Agra and Jaipur, a wish the industry has had for decades. This will change the way programmes are run.”

The new services will start on December 15.

Meanwhile, Kohli warns that as the US dollar continues to weaken against the Indian rupee, “Prices will unfortunately be impacted”.

Kohli said the three near-simultaneous bomb blasts that killed 13 people in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh were not aimed at tourists.

“These blasts were in the judicial court areas of the cities and it is believed were targeted against the lawyers in retaliation of an incident that occurred between them and some litigants a week back.

“Tourists were not the intended target of these events nor were the blasts in any areas where tourists would go.”

Nine people were killed in the holy city of Varanasi, and four in the city of Faizabad. The other attack was in the state capital, Lucknow.

Kohli added, “To reiterate, the situation on the ground in India is calm. We do not feel there is any reason for concern.”
