Lawsuit claims safety shortcuts led to Hard Rock Hotel collapse

Friday, 18 Oct, 2019 0

Less than one week after the deadly Hard Rock Hotel collapse in New Orleans, another lawsuit has been filed.

Ten people who said they were injured are suing, claiming negligence.

The project developers, architect, and builders have all been named as defendants.

"Delays, design changes and shortcuts created extra challenges to the project," the lawsuit says.

The building had an ‘insufficient’ number of supports, leading to dangerous stress on the building with workers reporting ‘dips’ before the collapse, it states.

"This major building collapse would not have occurred, but for the negligence and failures of the defendants," it alleges.

"The primary goal is to get to the bottom of exactly what happened, and make sure that nothing like this ever happens again," said plaintiffs’ attorneys Steve Herman and Rene Rocha.

Citadel Builders, which is one of the named defendants said it is ‘working with some of the finest engineering minds in the world and will get to the bottom of it,’ referrig to the still unknown cause of the collapse.

The site suddenly collapsed in New Orleans on Saturday, killing two workers and a third is still missing presumed deceased.

The City of New Orleans is mulling a controlled explosion to bring down two damaged cranes.

The cranes were damaged and are unstable with fears they could come crashing down in strong winds which are forecast for this weekend.
