Long-haul flights re-routed after military jets shot down

Thursday, 28 February 20193 min read

Airlines are being forced to reroute many long-haul flights to avoid airspace over Pakistan and northern India.

Thai Airways cancelled all flights from Bangkok to Europe, including the UK, on Thursday and a number were returned to Bangkok.

However, flights have resumed today, having been re-routed via China.

Several other airlines, including British Airways, have also had to re-route flights to avoid Pakistan and northern India due to growing tensions between the two countries, which resulted in Pakistan shooting down two Indian military jets this week.

Singapore Airlines said some of its Europe-bound flights will make refuelling stops en route, including those to London.

One SIA flight on Thursday, from Singapore to Frankfurt, was cancelled as a result of the disruption. As the situation remains fluid, customers are advised to check the status of their flights on our website or contact their local SIA reservations office," it said.
