Lost baggage fraud nets scammers USD500,000
Two men have been charged with defrauding multiple airlines in a lost luggage scam. Pernell Anthony Jones Jr, 31, and Donmonick Martin, 29 managed to scam more than $550,000 for more than 180 fictitious lost baggage claims.
The former used fake IDs to fly and then claimed that his bags were lost while Martin used his address and Paypal account to accept compensation. American Airlines, Alaska, United and JetBlue were among the carriers scammed.
According to the U.S. attorney’s office, they have been charged with conspiracy and mail fraud.
