A man has admitted murdering travel agent Cassie Hayes, who died after being attacked in a TUI branch in Southport on January 13.
Andrew Burke, of Vincent Street, St Helens, also pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court to having an offensive weapon, namely a knife, in a public place.
Prosecutor Gordon Cole QC described the murder of Ms Hayes, 28, as a pre-meditated and planned attack carried out in a ‘totally ruthless way’.
The court heard Burke attacked Ms Hayes in front of staff and customers at the agency, where she was assistant manager.
Burke had been previously engaged to Ms Hayes’ partner, Laura Williams.
He has been sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum of 26 years.
