Mandarin Oriental makes new leadership appointments

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has announced a change in senior leadership roles.

From 1, January 2018, Christoph Mares becomes chief operating officer after a promotion.

He will be based at the group’s Hong Kong corporate office and moves to Asia from his current position in London as executive vice president and operations director for Europe, Middle East, Africa and India (EMEAI).

He has amassed over 25 years’ experience in luxury hospitality and is a fomer COO of Emaar Hospitality Group.

Also changing roles is executive vice president, operations director – Asia, Richard Baker who becomes new group chief relationship officer on January 1.

Baker held senior positions at Rosewood Hotels and Resorts and Four Seasons before joining Mandarin Oriental more than a decade ago.

The company also appointed Paul Massot as group development director, based in London.

He is responsible for global development strategy and development pipeline.

"These senior appointments will ensure that the Group is well equipped to manage its future growth while maintaining the operational and service excellence for which Mandarin Oriental is renowned," said James Riley, group CEO of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.
