MATTA teams up with CLIA to promote Malaysia cruise tourism
Malaysia’s Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) has partnered with the Cruise Lines International Association to help grow cruise tourism in the country.
An official memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with Andy Harmer, CLIA’s SVP of membership and director of CLIA UK & Ireland, at the World Travel Market to promote cruising in the Malaysia market and push for more port calls from international cruise brands.
"The strategic cooperation between both associations will focus on the development and sustainable growth of the cruise tourism in Malaysia through education and awareness to members," said MATTA president Tan Kok Liang.
"Members from both associations will be able to leverage on each other’s technical knowledge, expertise and experience for expansion and growth."
There were a total of 599 cruise ship calls to Malaysian ports last year and its source passenger numbers almost doubled, according to the CLIA’s Asia Cruise Trends Report 2018.
