Low cost inter-city bus operator Megabus is introducing reserved seating on selected routes from next month.
The company, which advertises fares as low as $1, will offer assigned seating from May 28 for a fee on services between New York, Washington DC, Baltimore, Boston and Philidelphia for what Megabus calls its "10 most popular seats."
"Of the 10 reserved seat options, four are located on the upper deck at the very front and offer a spectacular panoramic view," said Mike Alvich, vice president of marketing and public relations.
"Two additional seats are also on the upper deck providing the convenience of a small table and four seats on the lower deck with a large table are also available to reserve," he added.
Depending on route and seat assignment, reservation fees range from $3 to $7 each way.
Reserved seats are colored blue and are highlighted with a large number displayed on the seat fabric.
Seat assignment can be booked directly through the megabus.com website.
The company will also expand reserved seating options on the Toronto-Kingston-Montreal route in the next few weeks and plan to roll it out to other destinations in the near future.
Each single and double-decker Megabus vehicle offers free Wi-Fi, and at-seat electrical outlets.
Earlier this month it announced it had carried 35 million passengers since is 2006 inception and now serves over 100 North American cities in 32 states.
