Momentum replacement working well, claims Galileo
Galileo claims that more airlines will soon be signing up for Preferred Fares Select – the successor to its Momentum scheme.
As previously reported by TravelMole, Galileo has ditched its Momentum programme – launched in March this year – and is instead pinning its hopes on an alternative scheme that gives US agents access to more fares.
Preferred Fares Select is similar to Momentum, but agents don’t have to sign up to it, so all 47,000 US agents get access.
The GDS is hoping it will have more success with the new scheme, although so far the same three carriers are signed up – US Airways, Continental Airlines and Northwest Airlines. However a spokesman told TravelMole: “It is going down better with airlines in the US, and we expect to announce some more airlines signing up in a few weeks.”
The spokesman added that the scheme was unlikely to be launched in Europe. He said: “The US and UK markets are very different, and you just can’t apply a single programme to UK airlines, like BA and Virgin – their business models are too different.”
Preferred Fares Select allows Galileo-connected agents get access to more fares including web fares and fares made available to other GDSs. It was launched last month as a replacement to the Preferred Fares and Momentum programmes.
Momentum, launched on March 1 this year, was designed to reduce travel distribution costs for airlines – with some of their savings being passed on to agents instead through reduced commission payments.
