Monarch is king for over 55s

Monarch Scheduled has welcomed research which shows the airline as attracting the most website visits from the increasingly affluent over 55s.

Figures from Hitwise reveal more than 31% of its traffic comes from the age group, way above the average of 21%.

The 35 to 44 age group account for less than 20% of visits to Monarch, the research revealed.

Managing director Tim Jeans said: “It is fantastic news for the industry as a whole that the early adopters in online travel bookings are the 55+ sector which is one of the most affluent and influential segments.”

The research follows another study which revealed more than three quarters of Internet users over 50 have visited a travel site within the past year.
