More online working with travel agents promised by Hoseasons
Active Hotels co-founder Andy Phillips, reputed to be one of the UK’s most successful internet entrepreneurs, has joined Hoseasons as a non-executive director.
Phillips, who sold Active Hotels to priceline.com for more than $160 million two years ago, will play a role in the self-catering operator’s increasing online presence, including more online partnerships with retail travel agents.
Hoseasons has also recruited David Maloney as chairman, to succeed Ron Haylock who is retiring after six years.
Maloney was formerly chief financial officer of Le Meridian Hotels and Resorts, chief financial officer of Thomson Travel Group and group finance director of Avis Europe.
“He brings with him strong mergers and acquisition expertise and excellent overall experience in consumer marketing, leisure brands, distribution and change management,” a Hoseasons statement said.
The operator’s chief executive Richard Carrick said: “The past year has been one of change for Hoseasons as we re-model our business in response to some of the most far reaching changes the travel industry has yet seen.
“These high calibre appointments clearly show our ambitions for the future of the business. Hoseasons enjoys a trusted consumer brand and we will embrace the future of the travel market by turning into a leading edge holiday company of the future, offering multi-channel distribution.”
Ben Hewetson, head of leisure investments at HgCapital, which funded the secondary management buy-in/buy-out of Hoseasons from ECI Partners in 2003, said: “Both David and Andy are industry heavyweights who bring considerable expertise to the board. In keeping with HgCapital’s active portfolio management, we look forward to working with them to develop further the Hoseasons offering.”
