More than 170 now reported dead in US storms

The death toll has risen to more than 170 in the tornadoes and severe storms that have been raging through parts of the US.

According to Alabama officials, at least 128 people have been killed in the state alone.

Deaths have also been reported in Georgia, Tennessee and Mississippi.

According to the BBC’s latest reports, seven states have now declared states of emergency.

The US Government has already agreed to send federal aid money to Alabama.

Nearly 300 tornadoes have been reported since the storms began nearly a week ago.
