The families of most of the Chinese tourists who perished in a Taiwan tour bus crash have settled compensation claims with the tour bus company.
The Taiwan Tourism Bureau said all but one of the families had reached a settlement with the bus company’s insurer
NT$6.64 million per victim will be paid to the families after the bus burst into flames killing all aboard including the Taiwanese bus driver and tour guide.
The remaining family yet to agree a settlement have instructed a lawyer to continue discussions with the insurance company.
"The wishes of the family will be respected," said Chang Hsi-tsung, Taiwan Tourism Bureau deputy director general.
Prosecutors are still investigating the cause of the fire, and the probe has centered on the discovery that several containers of gasoline which were found on the bus.
Smoke was found emitting from the bus shortly before it came to a halt and investigators are still probing whether the gasoline stoked the fire which may have started due to an electrical fault.
