Mother-of-three drowns off Lanzarote beach
A mother -of-three has died in Lanzarote after being swept into rough sea by riptide.
Nikki Bate, 49, went for a swim off the shore of Famara Beach, near the resort of Caleta de Famara in Lanzarote.
But she was swept out into rough seas moments after warning her family not to enter the water, reports the Daily Mail.
Her husband Anthony Bate, 56, heard her scream and dived in to rescue her but the current pulled them apart and she slipped from his grasp.
The strong currents at Famara Beach have already claimed the life of one Briton in April.
Steve Potter lost his life at the same resort after being pulled unconscious from the sea by fellow bathers.
Red flags fly on the beach warning of dangerous waters.
The Bate family had been staying at their holiday home on Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, before the accident.
Anthony, a company director, said lifeguards got to the couple within a few minutes, pulled them both back to the beach and battled for at least half an hour to save Nikki.
Nikki, originally from Whalley in Lancashire, was a dedicated mother of children India, 14, Nathaniel, 12, and Cameron, 10.
