Nevada casinos fined for Covid-19 violations
Two Nevada casino resorts have been fined for failing to uphold state Covid-19 protocols.
Sahara Las Vegas and Grand Sierra Resort, which are both owned by the Meruelo Group, were fined a total of $75,000 by the Nevada Gaming Commission for separate Covid-19 violations.
A complaint alleged Sahara held a lunch event for an estimated 135 people, violating Nevada’s rules limiting gatherings to 50 people.
A second charge claimed the casino resort broke social distancing rules at gaming tables just two weeks after casinos were permitted to reopen in June.
The Nevada regulator said Grand Sierra staff allowed dozens of guests onto the property in public areas without wearing masks
Meruelo Group says it took corrective action to ensure no further violations.
"Nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of our guests and team members and we will continue to work cooperatively with government agencies to meet these high standards," it said in a statement.
Four other smaller fines were imposed for Covid-19 containment violations on local establishments including Hotel Nevada & Gambling Hall in Ely and the COD Casino in Minden.
