Nevada to host Ultra-Marathon

Wednesday, 05 Jun, 2024 0

Nevada is playing host to the world’s toughest race later this year.

Ultra X Nevada takes place over five days from 21 – 25 October 2024, with a scenic yet challenging course.

The ultra marathon route passes through two of Nevada’s most famous state parks; Red Rock Conservation Area and Spring Mountain Recreation Area.

The 220km marathon will see runners reach an elevation of just over 6,500 meters, passing evergreen forests and low desert basins with cactus and colored rocks.

Red Rock Canyon Nature Conservation Reserve is one of the most scenic places in southern Nevada with nearly two million visitors a year flocking to see the red-banded canyons, sandstone peaks, and ancient petroglyphs. It covers more than 195,000 acres and the peak tops are visible from Las Vegas reaching a height of 1,800 feet. Red Rock Canyon unlocks an array of recreational activities with more than 30 miles of hiking trails and a 13-mile scenic drive. Visitors can also go horseback riding picnic, and rock climb.

Just beyond the bright lights of Las Vegas lies the spectacular Spring Mountains. Spanning 316,000 acres, this mountain range encompasses the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, the Mt. Charleston Wilderness Area, and La Madre and Rainbow Mountains. The rugged mountain scenery can be enjoyed with a relaxing drive, a scenic picnic, or on the 40 miles of hiking trails. The mountain scenery extends across the crest of the Spring Mountains and includes wide canyons and slot canyons, such as Fletcher Canyon, Robber’s Roost, and Mummy and Trough springs.

As well as the glitzy casinos and vibrant nightlife, ‘The Silver State’ is home to a variety of pristine natural wonders including the Valley of Fire State Park, Lake Tahoe and Great Basin National Park. Furthermore, the state is noted for its quirky  ghost towns and a host of unusual open-air art exhibits and attractions.
