Newcastle Airport’s Australian owners AMP Capital have bought Leeds Bradford airport in a deal that is understood to be worth £220 million.

AMP, which also has stakes in Melbourne and Port Hedland International airports, has bought Leeds Bradford from private equity house Bridgepoint.

According to a report in The Telegraph, the price paid by AMP includes the company’s debt.

AMP’s head of origination, Europe, Simon Ellis said the Yorkshire and Humber region was one of the fastest-growing in the UK, with a population growth of 6% since 2001. As a result, it said there was potential for further route development.

During the past five years, passenger numbers have risen almost 40%.
