France has expanded its prestigious Palace distinction program, adding six new luxury hotels and bringing the total number of officially recognized Palace properties to 33.
The new collection was unveiled by France’s tourism development agency, Atout France, following a comprehensive review process conducted by the Palace Commission during 2025.
The Palace distinction is considered the highest recognition in French hospitality and is reserved for exceptional five-star hotels that deliver outstanding service, heritage, design, location, and guest experiences.
Following recommendations from the Palace Commission, French Tourism Minister Serge Papin approved the renewal of Palace status for 27 properties while awarding the distinction to six hotels for the first time.
The six newly designated Palace hotels are: Bvlgari Hotel Paris; Fouquet’s Paris; Mandarin Oriental Lutetia Paris; Fouquet’s Courchevel; Hôtel Martinez Cannes; Villa La Coste.
Palace distinction remains a hallmark of French luxury
Their inclusion reflects the continued evolution of France’s luxury hospitality sector, with properties spanning major urban destinations, alpine resorts and the French Riviera.
Papin praised the achievement, noting that France’s global tourism appeal is built in part on the country’s world-renowned hotel sector and the dedication of hospitality professionals who deliver exceptional guest experiences every day.
Created in 2010, the Palace distinction was designed to highlight France’s most exceptional hotels. The designation is awarded exclusively to five-star properties that demonstrate excellence beyond traditional luxury standards.
Hotels undergo a rigorous evaluation process managed by Atout France, including property inspections and hearings before a panel of hospitality and luxury industry experts appointed by the Tourism Minister.
The distinction is valid for three years and serves as a powerful international marketing tool, helping reinforce France’s reputation as one of the world’s leading luxury travel destinations.
