Norwegian Cruise Lines is selling off its Hawaii based tour business Polynesian Adventure Tours and Luau Kalamaku.
The buyer is Roberts Hawaii, one of the largest tour and transportation companies in Hawaii.
Polynesian Adventure Tours, which operates as Gray Line Hawaii, was bought by NCL in 2004 for $5 million.
The deal has been described as ‘a sound decision’ for both companies by Percy Higashi, chief operating officer of Roberts Hawaii.
"We are looking forward to the opportunity to create value for our company and the employees at both operations; and offer an even higher level of ground transportation service to state residents and our visitor industry," Higashi said in a statement.
The takeover is still awaiting a review by the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission.
Until this is complete it will be ‘business as usual for both companies, and no changes will be made to our operations,’ Higashi said.
"Norwegian Cruise Line decided to make the move to focus on their core cruise line business," said Sandi Weir, president of Polynesian Adventure Tours.
"Norwegian’s still going to need a shore excursion operator and they’ll continue to use Roberts Hawaii and Polynesian Adventure Tours as their ground transportation operator."
