Police appeal for help after ‘unusually violent attack’ at London hotel
Police are appealing for information following an attack on three women tourists at a central London hotel on Sunday morning.
The women, in their 30s and from the United Arab Emirates, were attacked in their bedroom at the Cumberland Hotel in Marble Arch by a man with a hammer.
Police are treating the attack as an attempted murder and are appealing for information.
The Metropolitain Homicide and Major Crime unit believe a man entered a guest bedroom on the seventh floor of the hotel where three women and three children were sleeping in adjoining rooms.
Detectives believe that he disturbed when some of the occupants of the room woke up and attacked the women with a hammer, before fleeing the hotel. The hammer was later recovered at the scene.
The victims are all UAE nationals aged in their 30s, and all sustained head and facial injuries.
One woman is in a critical but stable condition at a central London hospital. The others both sustained serious injuries but their conditions are not life-threatening.
Detective chief inspector Andy Chalmers, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was an unusually violent attack on three women and I am very keen to speak with anyone who was in or around the hotel between 01.00hrs and 02.00hrs on Sunday morning.
"Did you see or hear anything that could be of use to my officers?
The incident room can be contacted on 020 8358 0100.
The news of the attack has spread worldwide, particularly to the Middle East.
