Princess Cruises has announced the name of its latest ship under construction that will be based year-round in China.
The 143,000-tonne vessel currently being built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy will be named Majestic Princess.
Majestic Princess is specifically designed for the Chinese market and will begin sailing in summer 2017.
"We’re excited that Shanghai will be welcoming this newest, most advanced addition to the Princess fleet, as it represents our brand’s long-term commitment to the continuing growth of the China market," said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises.
Majestic Princess is a sister ship to Royal Princess and Regal Princess and will accommodate 3,560 guests for cruises to Japan and Korea.
The ship will offer Princess’ signature Movies Under the Stars, featuring the largest outdoor screen at sea, Las Vegas style productions, and the Princess Water Colour Fantasy fountain and light show.
"Majestic Princess will allow us to bring the best the world has to offer to more Chinese guests, for an unparalleled premium and international vacation, inspired by our passion for the many places we sail." Swartz added.
Accommodation is being designed to cater to families and multi-generational cruises and all outside staterooms will have private balconies.
