Qantas and Air NZ move closer

Friday, 12 Apr, 2006 0

Reports from today’s Herald suggest that Qantas and Air NZ may announce as soon as today a code-sharing agreement across the Tasman.

Air NZ chief executive Rob Fyfe is quoted as saying “The best way to take capacity out is to look at some form of code-share,”…

“We fly five times a day between Auckland and Sydney and so does Qantas,” he said, arguing services could be rationalised to a collective seven or eight.

Mr Fyfe has previously hinted that Air NZ’s plans to slash the costs of its loss-making trans-Tasman operations would not only involve merging its mainline and Freedom Air operations but also involve a deal with Qantas.
