Qantas pushes back planned restart of international flights
Qantas posted a record half-year loss as it revealed plans to restart international flights in October.
State border closures and virtually no international services pushed Qantas to a record $1.08 billion loss.
Qantas’ revenue plunged 75% to $2.3 billion.
Passenger traffic was down 83%.
"These figures are stark but not surprising. During the half we saw the second wave in Victoria and the strictest domestic travel restrictions since the pandemic began," said Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce.
"Virtually all of our international flying and 70% of domestic flying stopped, and with it went three-quarters of our revenue."
Qantas and Jetstar international flights will restart on 21 October, it says,
It had previoulsy planned to resume overseas services in June.
"The date aligns with the expected timeframe for Australia’s Covid-19 vaccine rollout to be effectively complete," Qantas said.
