Qatar Airways extends ban on hunting trophies

Qatar Airways has joined a group of airlines who have imposed a ban on transporting hunting trophies.

Delta and American Airlines have already confirmed they will no longer carry lion, rhinoceros, leopard, elephant or buffalo remains as cargo.

In the wake of the killing of the Zimbabwean lion Cecil, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic also confirmed they operate a total ban on carrying big-game trophies.

Qatar Airways said its existing ban on carrying certain hunting trophies for species threatened with extinction has been extended to include all species that are protected in at least one country.

These include species such as the two-toed sloth, African civet and the alligator snapping turtle.

"An absolute ban on all hunting trophies further extends our commitment to supporting the protection of endangered species and the elimination of illegal trading of animal products," said Qatar Airways Group chief executive, His Excellency, Mr. Akbar Al Baker.
