Radisson Hotel first to comply with Nordic Swan Eco-label
The Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel in Oslo, Norway is the first hotel within Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts to comply with the environmental criteria of the Nordic Swan eco-labelling scheme.
The Radisson SAS Plaza is not only the first hotel in the chain to receive the eco-label, but also the largest hotel in Northern Europe to comply with the strict environmental demands.
On March 19th, the hotel was awarded the Swan licence from the Norwegian Minister for the Environment, Mr. Børge Brende. To obtain this license, the Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel had to ensure that they comply with one of the world’s strictest environmental criteria for hotels.
“A hotel does not put an environmental programme in place just to be good”, said the hotel General Manager Tarje Hellebust.
“We wanted to obtain the Swan eco-label as it makes good business sense. Many of our customers put environmental demands upon us, and we wanted to meet and exceed these demands by obtaining a third party certification.”
Pia Heidenmark, corporate Director of Environmental & Social Affairs, said “Receiving this third-party eco-label shows that our internal Responsible Business programme lives up to the demands posed by independent organisations. I hope this achievement will inspire other hotels, both internally and among other chains, to actively work to improve their environmental performance. Moreover, receiving this eco-label demonstrates that environmental improvements are feasible within large hotel operations.”
