Regional airlines Republic and Mesa Air to merge

Two of the major US regional airlines will merge to create a major player in the regional market.
Republic Airways and Mesa Air Group announced on Monday that they will combine businesses.
Republic flies nearly 1,000 flights a day across the US, North and Central America.
Arizona-based Mesa offers about 250 daily flights.
The carriers both operate as regional affiliates for mainland airlines including Delta Air Lines, United, and American Airlines.
Following the merger, regional contracts with these airlines will continue.
The new combined business will be known as Republic Airways Holdings Inc with a total fleet of 310 Embraer aircraft.
This ‘will enable more efficient and productive regional flying and crew resource management,’ the companies said.
“We’re thrilled to combine the Republic and Mesa teams to create one of the world’s leading Embraer Jet operators,” Bryan Bedford, Republic’s CEO, said
Both companies said there are no immediate plans to downsize staffing.
