Royal Air Maroc update: Gulf and Central Africa flights return while European routes remain suspended

Royal Air Maroc is resuming flights to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates as the Moroccan flag carrier gradually rebuilds its network following a series of suspensions and frequency reductions across Europe and Africa.

According to aviation intelligence firm CAPA, the airline will restart daily Casablanca-Doha services on July 1. Flights to Dubai will follow on July 3, initially operating three times weekly.

The return to the Gulf comes after Royal Air Maroc implemented one of its largest schedule reductions since the pandemic, citing operational challenges and rising costs.

In Africa, the carrier temporarily suspended service to six destinations from late May through June. Flights linking Casablanca with Brazzaville, Kinshasa, Douala, Bangui, Yaoundé and Libreville were all halted for varying periods, disrupting connections across Central Africa. Services to Libreville, for example, were suspended from May 24 to June 9, while the Brazzaville-Kinshasa routing remained off the schedule through June 30.

Europe leisure routes suspended for the entire summer season

The airline also made substantial cuts to its European network. Seasonal services from Marrakech to six cities were completely canceled for much of the summer. Flights to Bordeaux, Brussels, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes and Toulouse, each scheduled twice weekly, have been removed between early July and mid-September.

Meanwhile, frequencies from Casablanca have been trimmed on several routes. Services to Catania and Montpellier have been reduced from three to two weekly flights, Venice from four to three weekly, Valencia from five to four weekly and Zurich from three to two weekly beginning in mid-July.

Additional cuts affect northern Morocco. Flights from Tangier to Barcelona and Malaga have each been reduced from twice weekly to a single weekly frequency for the summer season.

Against this backdrop, the reopening of Gulf routes marks a significant step in Royal Air Maroc’s network recovery. Doha remains strategically important through the carrier’s partnership with Qatar Airways, while Dubai continues to be a key market for both business and leisure travel.
