Royal Caribbean International is the first major cruise line with Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) certified Five Star Dive Centers aboard, enabling guests to gain open water diver accreditation during a sailing.
Royal Caribbean’s partnership with PADI sees 10 ships with PADI Five Star Dive Centers offering onboard courses ranging from short ‘Try Dive’ programs, refresher training and full open water diver certification.
As is standard for PADI dive tuition, initial training takes place in the ship’s pool following by training dives spread out during two ports of call.
"For the past 16 years Royal Caribbean has worked closely with PADI to develop our onboard dive program No other cruise line offers the opportunity for guests to become PADI certified scuba divers as part of the cruise, making it an ultimate dive trip as well," said Roberta Jacoby, managing director of global tour operations at Royal Caribbean.
"When guests sign up for the PADI Open Water Diver Course, they receive first-rate training and diver certification, performing their own scuba dives amidst the beautiful and serene waters of multiple Caribbean destinations and the South Pacific."
‘Liveaboard’ dive cruises on small yachts are highly popular throughout Southeast Asia, the Pacific and the Caribbean for seasoned scuba divers, but Royal Caribbean’s partnership with PADI is a first of its kind for a major global cruise line.
