Ryanair to close two more bases due to MAX delivery delays

Ryanair is to axe two more bases, Nuremberg in Germany and Stockholm Skavsta in Sweden.

It said the decision was due to further delays of the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for summer 2020.

As a result, the airline said it has again revised its summer 2020 schedule based on receiving 10 MAX aircraft instead of the 20 previously expected.

It has reduced traffic growth for the year to the end of March 2021 from 157 million passengers to 156 million.

In an update to investors today, Ryanair said this would necessitate the closure of Nuremberg and Stockholm Skavsta.

"We also expect to cut summer capacity in a number of other existing bases, and we are currently in discussions with our people, our unions, and our affected airports to finalise these minor reductions," it added.
