Rydges Sabaya Resort Port Douglas to open officially next week

Sunday, 22 Jun, 2007 0

Rydges Sabaya Resort Port Douglas, the newest Australian property for Rydges Hotels and Resorts, will open officially on Wednesday, 27 June, after a spectacular multi-million dollar redevelopment.

The former Rydges Reef Resort, which has been completely rebuilt over a period of  18 months, will be relaunched as a 4.5 star holiday resort and conference centre, designed in a distinctly Balinese theme.

Located on 3.2 hectares at the southern entrance to Port Douglas village, the resort will offer 192 guestrooms, including one and two bedroom apartments, providing accommodation suitable for families, couples or individuals, and meeting continued strong demand for quality accommodation in Tropical Far North Queensland.

The property, the 29th in Australia for the Rydges group, will also accommodate up to 350 conference delegates, with facilities ranging from meeting rooms to a major auditorium and extensive in-house catering support.

“This redevelopment has created a completely new resort property in one of Australia’s most desirable locations, and provides a brand new accommodation option for visitors to spectacular Far North Queensland,” said Kellie Eustace, who has been appointed General Manager of the new property.

“It was the dream of the property’s owners, Raglan Investments, to create a Balinese style for the resort, to convey a very tropical look and feel reflective not only of North Queensland but of the broader Asian region, and this was realised by Port Douglas-based architects Gary Hunt and Partners,” said Kellie.

“We then adopted the Balinese name Sabaya, which in English translates to ‘promise’ – the promise to deliver to our guests a relaxing, memorable stay in a high quality property, in one of Australia’s most desirable locations.”

Every hotel room at Rydges Sabaya Resort will include a private balcony, individually-controlled air conditioning, flat screen television, telephone with international direct dialing, high-speed internet access, a minibar with tea and coffee-making facilities, a toaster and a microwave.

All apartments in the resort will include a separate lounge and private balcony, a kitchenette with  refrigerator, microwave, convection oven, toaster and two hotplates, a dining area, flat screen televisions in the lounge and bedrooms, a DVD/CD player, IDD telephone and high speed internet access.

The property will also offer an extensive a day spa facility, featuring a selection of massages, facials and body scrubs, hot stone therapy and pampering treatments for the hands and feet.

Other facilities at the resort include a Kids Club, a lagoon swimming pool with swim-up bar, a restaurant and lounge bar, poolside dining facilities and a tour desk.

The resort’s restaurant, Sakinah House, will offer local cuisine for breakfast and dinner in a modern, contemporary setting; the Lotus Lounge Bar will overlook the lagoon pool and the Biru Bar, at the edge of the pool, will offer lunch each day as well as a wide variety of beers and cocktails.

Up to 60 new jobs will be created at Rydges Sabaya Resort Port Douglas, in addition to significant reinvestment in the local community, from where fresh produce and a range of support services will be sourced each day.
