Sandals survey aks why people marry abroad
Almost half of people want to get married abroad to avoid distant relatives and unwanted acquaintances, according to new research by Sandals Resorts.
A survey of 2,000 people by the Caribbean hotel company found 47% said they would like to or are planning to marry abroad to avoid inviting distant relations and acquaintances that they don’t really want to be there.
The Caribbean proved to be a popular destination of choice for the majority (23%), followed by Italy (14%) and The Maldives (12%).
The survey also showed:
28% of those marrying in the UK were planning to spend over £10,000 on their wedding and honeymoon compared with only 23% of those marrying abroad
69% said better weather was the main reason for marrying abroad,
47% said the main reason was the romance of tying the knot in an exotic location
23% said the main reason was the lower cost
39% said being able to combine their wedding with a honeymoon is a huge factor.
