Security breach causes ‘chaos’ at Gatwick Airport
Gatwick Airport was in ‘chaos’ after passengers were forced to evacuate from the North Terminal.
It came as some passengers entered the departure lounge via a fire door and boarded aircraft with going through security screening.
Passengers who had already checked in were ordered out of the departure lounge and had to be re-screened
This led to Gatwick flight delays.
It happened late on Wednesday.
“A fire alarm was triggered and the terminal had to be evacuated,” the airport tweeted.
“When re-entering the terminal, passengers had gone through to the departure lounge and onto flights via a fire door.”
“Therefore, passengers in these areas had to be brought back through security for re-screening.”
This included travelers who had already boarded flights
The airport apologised for the inconvenience.
Passengers caught in the confusion took to social media to complain.
One wrote “Bloody disgrace. No control, management or planning..”
“The answer isn’t good enough. In this situation, dynamic risk assessment is essential not just a lazy, dangerous, ridiculous blanket decree.”

My flight was canceled I had to spend two more nights in London and cost me over £600 in hotel taxi and other expence. Thank you Gatwick for being so useless. Complete disgrace.
