Short haul fares down by a third on some routes
The price of shorthaul travel has fallen by almost a third on some routes, according to a recent business travel survey.
The Carlson Wagonlit Travel survey, ‘Business Travel Watch’ reports that on routes like London-Milan and Frankfurt-London prices fell by about 32% in the first half of 2003 compared to the same period last year.
Other routes have also fallen – Copenhagen-London has dropped 23%, London-Madrid 28%, Amsterdam-London 14% and domestic routes such as Aberdeen-London and Edinburgh-London by 18%.
Carlson Wagonlit Travel executive vice president North Europe, Jim Tweedie said: “The cost of tickets coming down, with some exceptions on certain routes – and generally those with less competition – is a clear sign that the airlines have recognised just how price sensitive travellers have become. It also illustrates just how competitive the market is right now.”
